It really sucks, but what sucks even more is how people judge the game based on fan perception, as opposed to it’s own merits. They have this perception because the fans give it this perception. Many people have this perception despite not playing it. I’m still seeing people call Xenoblade Chronicles 2 a fanservice game. Fans largely being horny for them shouldn’t take away from their character arcs. Pyra and Mythra are fantastic characters. Most of the talk online about them revolves around this. People are extremely horny for Pyra and Mythra. The same thing happened, and continues to happen with Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This isn’t just exclusive to Nier Automata. You can’t base your judgements on how the fans perceive the media, because most fans will perceive it in this way if they can. But this shouldn’t take away from the game or her character. Yet, most people are horny nonstop for her. There is much more to her character than her ass. There is much more to the game than 2B’s ass. I do think it’s unfortunate, because Nier Automata is a fantastic game.

They will talk about their boobs, ass, and thighs. They will talk about how hot the character is. Even if a female character is absolutely amazing and extremely well-developed and well-written, most people will talk about the character in terms of how much of a great waifu they are. Something people need to realize if that most people do not care about quality whatsoever, or they at least don’t pay much attention. But that doesn’t make the game or anime any worse. Personally, I do wish that discussion around games and anime would revolve more around what makes it good, as opposed to being horny 24/7 and talking about waifus. If it was good, people would talk about the story and characters, or the gameplay if it’s a game. This leads them to the conclusion that said game or anime is bad. They will mention that fans only care about something superficial, while the meat of what makes a game or anime good or bad is ignored. This is a type of comment I see frequently about many games and many anime. That doesn't put him above criticism, but hopefully it does put him above petty name calling since he's not really doing any harm.I noticed people recently saying that people only care about Nier Automata for 2B’s ass and that the game isn’t actually good. This particular game is what it is, I think as a whole the better focus would to be creating more different stuff than trying to change someone else's creation.

I'm all for having more games with great female leads that cover more skin and don't have their butt on the screen all the time, but that has nothing to do with this particular game. The fact that people who advocate this think that they're inherently right and morally above others that don't agree doesn't help either. That's how we end up with stuff like Hatred and Haydee. People that had no problem with milder female leads will suddenly do because of petty exchanges from both sides. Is a game with a less clothed female protag a lesser game than one with a fully clothed one? I don't think it is and this idea being reinforced will just make people go the exact opposite way. Of course, that has nothing to do with the idea of better representation and equality and more with the preconceived notion that these ideas should be drilled into every product ever made. It assumes that we are always and ever moving forward as a whole, scraping the past to build the future, but forward is not automatically better. Because there's more to a progressive point of view than just better representation and equality, which, shockingly, do have fauts.
